neutral bay

Description

This garden, which has undergone a complete transformation from an awkward sloping space to a modern multi-functional outdoor room, is an example of successful design. By embracing the challenges posed by the site and thinking outside the box, we have created an appealing outdoor space where the owners can relax and entertain.

The final palette of materials and finishes includes the sandstone used to construct the retaining walls, the timber decking and stairs, the large format concrete pavers and the rendered walls of the planter boxes.

A key feature of the new outdoor room is the woodfired pizza oven, which was a must for the owners. This built-in feature forms the focal point of the family’s outdoor entertaining and will given them many years of use and enjoyment. To extend this enjoyment to the evening hours, we installed garden lighting to bring the space to life at night.

All the plants used are very low maintenance. This ensures that the owners don’t have to spend too much time in upkeep and the plants have the best chance of flourishing during dry times. The selection comprises bamboo for screening, Agaves and Cordylines for architectural accent and Liriope for its strappy leaves and softening effect.
