Description
In terms of access, you don’t get much more challenging than this large rooftop garden in Killarney Heights on Sydney’s North Shore installed by the Harrison’s Landscaping. The spiral staircase was the only access to the rest of the site, which meant all materials had to be carried up the stairs.
When we first started on this rooftop garden design and construction project all we had to work with was an old concrete slab and a mountain of Lantana. After many trips up and down the spiral stairs the end result is a practical and usable rooftop garden for entertaining.
After we installed concrete footings and the retaining walls, we built the cabana which includes a cantilevered corner, down lights and heaters. Just outside of the cabana is a cantilevered Spotted Gum seat which is positioned next to the BBQ area.
We used large 800 x 800 travertine tiles which contrast really nicely with the plants which includes: Buxus, Magnolias, tree ferns, Leriope, Lilly Piily and Murraya.
